A Class Clown's Guide to Storytelling in Eight Equal Parts
Behold! The STORY SPIRAL
Finally, I can stop holding my breath and start the dry heaving.
Today I launch the much anticipated (largely in my imagination) YouTube series on my eight part story structure, The Story Spiral. A mini-course with lots of examples and a distinct set of color coding.
My hope is to give a boost to new writers, especially those who struggle with planning. And for non-writers, I’d love to share it as a means to analyze the stories they love. And for anyone else, again… pretty colors.
The more academic crowd might be the only ones to notice otherwise, so instead I’d like to level the playing field for you now: this program is a remix, not an outright new set of concepts. I am combining some very familiar influences from far more established sources.
That said, I’ve put a lot of effort into putting an indelibly DAVE stamp on things by: rearranging portions, adding my own perspective, examples and tips, and what I’ll generously call mid-level humor. Not to mention some handcrafted (read: basic) illustrations and animations, all built from A.I.-free scratch.
Today, I am kicking off with an introduction. Next week, specifically on Wednesday the 25th, I will begin weekly video posts through the middle of May. Ten total videos, including eight “main” videos, as well as an intro and a close.
A few shorter clips from the main videos will be landing on Instagram and the like as well. If you or a writer in your life could benefit from this material, please share! I’ve put a ton of effort into this but the goal is to pay it forward first and get more eyes on my upcoming work second. Even John Cena isn’t this transparent!
Thanks for taking a moment, now jump on in already!
